Today we will read and learn about the promises of the restoration of Jerusalem; the judgement upon neighboring nations; Zion's future king; and the deliverance of Jerusalem. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that Jesus is coming. We have no idea when He is coming, but we must be prepared for that day.

In great anticipation, Zechariah proclaimed, "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass." (Zechariah 9:9). Although this prophecy was fulfilled five hundered and fifty years later, Zechariah never stopped rejoicing over the coming of the Lord. This prophecy was fulfilled as Jesus entered Jerusalem during the last week before His crucifixion riding on an ass, "And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." (Matthew 21:8-9).

Zechariah also foretold of the details concerning Jesus' betrayer, the religious leaders that paid him, and His crucifixion, "And it was broken in that day: and so the poor of the flock that waited upon me knew that it was the word of the LORD. And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD........And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn" (11:11-13, 12:10). This prophcy was fulfilled as Jesus was rejected and betrayed, "Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him." (Matthew 26:14-16).

Zechariah ended His prophecy by foretelling the end of our present sinful age, "Behold, the day of the LORD cometh, and thy spoil shall be divided in the midst of thee. For I will gather all nations against Jerusalem to battle; and the city shall be taken, and the houses rifled, and the women ravished; and half of the city shall go forth into captivity, and the residue of the people shall not be cut off from the city. Then shall the LORD go forth, and fight against those nations, as when he fought in the day of battle. And his feet shall stand in that day upon the mount of Olives, which is before Jerusalem on the east, and the mount of Olives shall cleave in the midst thereof toward the east and toward the west, and there shall be a very great valley; and half of the mountain shall remove toward the north, and half of it toward the south." (Zechariah 14:1-4).

We all would like this part of the prophecy to be only speculation, but the truth is that these prophecies are in fact a reality that is taking place. We will see nations rise up against each other until the very end and unfortunately all who have not accepted Jesus will not be saved from the destruction. We have no way of knowing when the exact time will be that Jesus will come back, but we can be prepared for that moment. Jesus said, "It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power. But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth." (Acts 1:7-8). All who accept Jesus receives the Holy Ghost in them and become witnesses for Him.

In today's message Jesus Christ in many ways, as King, (Zechariah 9:9), as Servant, (Zechariah 11:12), and as the Great Shepherd, (Zechariah 13:7).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
We pray for a sincere heart that is sensitive to the truths in the Bible, we struggle with forgetfulness and indifference, but with You we can be revived. A revival for messengers who feed our indifference in favor of modern accepted philosophies of this world rather than the life changing truths of the Gospel.  Revival for those who sit in the church pews week after week who hear the life changing truths of Your Word, but leave unyielded to the working of the Holy Spirit in their lives. Revive both the messenger and listener so that our lives are a demonstration of the reality of a vibrant walk with You, Jesus, our Savior and Lord. In Jesus' name, we pray.......Amen.

Beyond Appearances 09.28.08

Today we will read and learn about the judgement upon Israel; Zechariah encouraging them to repent; Joshua, the high priest; and Zechariah's visions. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that sometimes people look at us as unusable and on no value to God, but God uses all His children. What a wonderful feeling to know that God sees beyond our appearances.

The book of Zechariah is the 38th book of the Old Testament and contins 14 chapters. The author of the book was Zechariah and it was written to the people of Israel. The purpose of the book was to further encourage the Israelites to rebuild the Temple. What we are to learn from the book is that God controls the affairs of all people and nations regardless of what the world thinks.

God through Zechariah foretold of the judgement that was upon Israel, "In the eighth month, in the second year of Darius, came the word of the LORD unto Zechariah, the son of Berechiah, the son of Iddo the prophet, saying, The LORD hath been sore displeased with your fathers. Therefore say thou unto them, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye unto me, saith the LORD of hosts, and I will turn unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. Be ye not as your fathers, unto whom the former prophets have cried, saying, Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Turn ye now from your evil ways, and from your evil doings: but they did not hear, nor hearken unto me, saith the LORD." (Zechariah 1:1-4).

However, God assured them that He would restore the nation and even declared that many nations will follow Him, Jesus is also revealed here. "Sing and rejoice, O daughter of Zion: for, lo, I come, and I will dwell in the midst of thee, saith the LORD. And many nations shall be joined to the LORD in that day, and shall be my people: and I will dwell in the midst of thee, and thou shalt know that the LORD of hosts hath sent me unto thee. And the LORD shall inherit Judah his portion in the holy land, and shall choose Jerusalem again. Be silent, O all flesh, before the LORD: for he is raised up out of his holy habitation." (2:10-11).

Zechariah offers a glimpse into heaven to view the confrontations between God and Satan. Joshua, the high priest was speaking to the angel of God in filthy garmets, this was symbolic of his own sins and the sins of the people. He stood before Him unworthy and Satan was there to attack him. "And he shewed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the LORD, and Satan standing at his right hand to resist him. And the LORD said unto Satan, The LORD rebuke thee, O Satan; even the LORD that hath chosen Jerusalem rebuke thee: is not this a brand plucked out of the fire? Now Joshua was clothed with filthy garments, and stood before the angel." (3:1-3).  The devil will bring out all sorts of accusations in an attempt to keep a guilty Christian from going to God and asking for forgiveness in order to be cleansed from their sins and believing that God will accept him.

God proved Satan as He forgave Joshua and cleaned him up, "And he answered and spake unto those that stood before him, saying, Take away the filthy garments from him. And unto him he said, Behold, I have caused thine iniquity to pass from thee, and I will clothe thee with change of raiment. And I said, Let them set a fair mitre upon his head. So they set a fair mitre upon his head, and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the LORD stood by." (3:4-5).

There comes a time when we all fall victim to Satan's accusations, we feel like we are always doing something wrong and that nothing we do for God is good enough. It is when we are at the end of our resources that we lose confidence in our own abilities and that is when God intervenes and teaches us that He in fact loves us and accepts us just as we are. We learn from Zechariah that it is not by our might or power, but by His spirit that He is with us. "Then he answered and spake unto me, saying, This is the word of the LORD unto Zerubbabel, saying, Not by might, nor by power, but by my spirit, saith the LORD of hosts." (4:6). Yeilding to the Holy Spirit that indwells inside of us is an act of a true Christian who is accomplishing the Will of God.

In today's message Jesus Christ is revealed through My servant the Branch, (Zechariah 3:8). "Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit." (John 15:2).

Stay Encouraged 09.27.08

Today we are studying the books Zephaniah and Haggai, we will read and learn about God's judgement; the future destruction of the Gentile nations; Haggai urging the people to rebuild the Temple; and the reproof of the unfaithful. Today's message focuses on the importance of staying encouraged through our trials. God gives us tasks to do and usually they are when we are in the midst of our circumstances. It is during this time that we need to seek obey His commands otherwise we will waste precious time and end up struggling a lot longer than we have to.

The book of Zephaniah is the 36th book of the Old Testament and contains 3 chapters, the author of the book is Zephaniah and it was written to the people of Israel. The purpose of the book was to warn Israel and all nations of the judgement God placed upon them. What we are to learn from the book is that God is mighty to save all who turn to Him. God through Zephaniah spoke to the people of Israel about the judgement that had been placed upon their nation. "I will utterly consume all things from off the land, saith the LORD. I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumbling blocks with the wicked: and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the LORD. I will also stretch out mine hand upon Judah, and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem; and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place, and the name of the Chemarims with the priests; And them that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops; and them that worship and that swear by the LORD, and that swear by Malcham; And them that are turned back from the LORD; and those that have not sought the LORD, nor enquired for him." (Zephaniah 1:2-6).

However, in the midst of it all God assures them that those who turn to Him will be saved. "The LORD hath taken away thy judgments, he hath cast out thine enemy: the king of Israel, even the LORD, is in the midst of thee: thou shalt not see evil any more. In that day it shall be said to Jerusalem, Fear thou not: and to Zion, Let not thine hands be slack. The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. I will gather them that are sorrowful for the solemn assembly, who are of thee, to whom the reproach of it was a burden." (3:15-18).

The book of Haggai is the 37th book of the Old Testament and contains 2 chapters, the author of the book is Haggai ann it was written to the people of Israel, after the exile; particularly the Jews who had returned to Jerusalem. The purpose of the book was to inspirew Israel to have a new enthusiam for God and to make the leaders aware of their responsibility to rebuild the Temple. The Israelites returned from Persia with Zerubbabel to begin rebuilding the Temple with great enthusiam, but when their Samaritan enemies greatly opposed them they became discouraged and stopped working on it. While the Israelites continued to hope for better times, about fifteen years passed and nothing more was accomplished for the Lord. Then God moved upon the prophet Haggai to speak to them, "Then came the word of the LORD by Haggai the prophet, saying, Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? Now therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Consider your ways. Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith the LORD." (Haggai 1:3-8).

As soon as the Israelites heard Haggai say, Then came the word of the Lord", they renewed their interest in rebuilding the Temple. This time they ignored the threats and did not stop until the Temple was complete, which took about four years. (You can learn more about the rebuilding of the Temple by reading the book of Ezra).

The book of Haggai illustrates that without the Word of God with us we will always fall prey to the threats that keep us from putting Him first. Reading God's Word daily and applying it to our lives gives us encouragement and keeps us renewed. "Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work, To speak evil of no man, to be no brawlers, but gentle, shewing all meekness unto all men. For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;" (Titus 3:1-6).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed as the Lord, King of Israel, (Zephaniah 3:15). Jesus is the King of kings and Lord of lords.

Avoid Wickedness 09.26.08

Today we will read and learn about Nahum's prophecy and the destruction of Nineveh; and Habakkuk's sorrow and prayer. Today's message focuses on the importance of avoiding wickedness and living by faith.

The book of Nahum is the 34th book of the Old Testament and contains 3 chapters, the author of the book was Nahum and it was written to the nation of Nineveh. The purpose of the book was to warn the nation of the judgement that had been placed upon the capitol of the Assyrian empire who took God's people into captivity. What we are to learn from the book is that we need to be aware of the judgement that we face if we are the cause of evil. It was about 150 years after Jonah's prophecy since the nation had repented and was saved from destruction. God called on the prophet Nahum to address the nation, "The burden of Nineveh. The book of the vision of Nahum the Elkoshite. God is jealous, and the LORD revengeth; the LORD revengeth, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserveth wrath for his enemies. The LORD is slow to anger, and great in power, and will not at all acquit the wicked: the LORD hath his way in the whirlwind and in the storm, and the clouds are the dust of his feet. He rebuketh the sea, and maketh it dry, and drieth up all the rivers: Bashan languisheth, and Carmel, and the flower of Lebanon languisheth. The mountains quake at him, and the hills melt, and the earth is burned at his presence, yea, the world, and all that dwell therein." (Nahum 1:1-5).

Now, the time had come for them to be judged by God, Judah was captive to Assyria, but Nahum foretold of their freedom as long as they remained faithful to God through the war. "And the LORD hath given a commandment concerning thee, that no more of thy name be sown: out of the house of thy gods will I cut off the graven image and the molten image: I will make thy grave; for thou art vile. Behold upon the mountains the feet of him that bringeth good tidings, that publisheth peace! O Judah, keep thy solemn feasts, perform thy vows: for the wicked shall no more pass through thee; he is utterly cut off." (Nahum 1:14-15). Assyria was probably the most brutal of all the ancient heathen nations, God warned them of there coming destruction, "Woe to the bloody city! it is all full of lies and robbery; the prey departeth not;" (3:1). The nation of Ninevah was destroyed exactly as it was foretold and the once mighty city is still laid waste today to be a witness to the accuracy of the Word of God.

Many people misunderstand when God says He is a jealous God, this does not mean that He is jealous of you, His child, this means that He is jealous of the man made gods that take His place. One thing God detests more than anything is the wicked that deliberately causes sin, it is one thing to sin by err, but it is another thing to deliberately create the sin, (Ex: One can fall into pornographic sin, but the one that created the pictures, movies etc. is the creator of the sin.). For this reason we are to remain protected by the wickedness of the world. "Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." (Ephesians 6:11-13).

The book of Habakkuk is the 35th book of the Old Testament and also contains 3 chapters. The author of the book was Habakkuk and it was written to the people of Judah. The purpose of the book was to awaken the spiritual needs of Judah and to warn them of the impending upon them from God. What we are to learn from this book is that we are live by faith and not sight. God used Habakkuk to warn His idol worshipping people of the impending judgement that was placed upon them and that He was using the nation of Babylon to punish them. Habukkuk was burdened by what He saw, "The burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see. O LORD, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear! even cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save! Why dost thou shew me iniquity, and cause me to behold grievance? for spoiling and violence are before me: and there are that raise up strife and contention. Therefore the law is slacked, and judgment doth never go forth: for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore wrong judgment proceedeth. Behold ye among the heathen, and regard, and wonder marvelously: for I will work a work in your days which ye will not believe, though it be told you." (Habukkuk 1:1-5).

However, God assured him that those who were just (righteous) Him would be saved, "And the LORD answered me, and said, Write the vision, and make it plain upon tables, that he may run that readeth it. For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry. Behold, his soul which is lifted up is not upright in him: but the just shall live by his faith." (2:2-4). Habukkuk ended his prophecy by putting his faith in God, "Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation. The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds' feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places. To the chief singer on my stringed instruments." (3:17-18)

Habukkuk is an example that we all must follow, no matter how bleak the future looks we can not take our eyes off God. We must learn to live by faith and not by sight. "Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:)." (II Corinthians 5:6-7).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the One who the sea obeys, (Nahum 1:4). Jesus commanded the sea to be still, (Matthew 8).

God's Mercy 09.25.08

Today we will read and learn about the impending judgement upon Israel and Judah; their furure deliverance; the birth of Chirst foretold; and God's judgement and mercy for His people. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that God has mercy for all His children and we are blessed to be saved by knowing His sone, Jesus Christ.

The book of Micah is the 33rd book of the Old Testament and contains 7 chapters, the book was written by Micah to the people of Judah and Israel. The purpose of the book was a call for them to repent and avoid the judgement they were facing. What we are to learn from the book is that God judges all who torment His people and has mercy on all who repent.

God, through Micah spoke to the nations of Judah and Israel about the judgement place upon them for their sins, the destruction of their nations, and their restoration. "The word of the LORD that came to Micah the Morasthite in the days of Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah, which he saw concerning Samaria and Jerusalem." (Micah 1:1). Micah was not a well known prophet, in fact not many knew who he was at all, however one of the most beautiful descriptions of the millennium in all the Bible was revealed by this man.

700 years before the birth of Jesus Christ Micah foretold of the exact of His birth. "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth." (5:2-4).

There was one major statement made here by Micah, "Whose goings forth have been from old, from everlasting." This statement proclaimes the deity (God) and eternal existance of Jesus. Had Jesus been born from an earthly father He would have had a sinful nature like the rest of us, therefore He could not have suffered for the sins of all mankind and become our Savior.

The word Bethlehem in Hebrew means House of Bread, what an amazing concept since Jesus, who is the Bread of Life was born there. "And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." (John 6:35). Jesus, while be tempted by the devil said, "It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God." (Matthew 4:4). This means that we need more than just physical food for the body, God's Word feeds the soul. The word Ephratah means fruitness or abundance, when we feed on God's Word we become fruitful and satisfied.

As descendants of Adam, unfortunately we have all inherited his sinful nature, but the best thing that we have going for us is that while we were born into sin, we are saved by the one who knew no sin. "Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God. For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." (II Corinthians 5:20-21).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the Ruler in Israel who was to be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2). Jesus Christ was born in Bethlehem as the Son of the Highest, "(Luke 1:32-33).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I will never fully understand the depth of Your sacrifical death where You saved all of us from our sinful nature. You gave all so that I could be forgiven and see You face to face one day. Thank You, Lord for all that You did, there is absolutely nothing that I could do to repay You except to praise You and teach others about You. In fact, Your mercy tells me that all I have to do is call on You and nothing else is needed. What a remarkable God that You are to all of us, You deserve all the glory and praise. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Following God's Will 09.24.08

Today we will learn about Jonah trying to run from God's Will; Jonah and the whale; God's second commission; The nation of Nineveh repenting, and Jonah's displeaser. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that the price of backsliding and obtaining the lusts of the world is way too costly for the temporary satisfaction received. Doing the Will of God is far more rewarding than anythign the world has to offer.

The book of Jonah is the 32nd book of the Old Testament and contains 4 chapters. The author of the book was written by Jonah to the nation of Ninevah and the purpose of the book was to warn them of the consequences they faced by being disobedient to God and to show all nations that salvation was not just for Israel. What we learn from the book is that salvation is not restricted to race, culture, or any religion. No one is saved unless they call upon the name of the Lord, Jesus Christ.

God commanded Jonah to go to Nineveh and tell them of the judgement they were facing, "Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me." (Jonah 1:1-2). Jonah believed Ninevah to be a threat to Israel and deserved not to be warned of their potential destruction so he fled the country thinking that he could run from God and avoid His command. "But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD." (1:3).

I imagine Jonah could not believe that the mercy and love of God would extend even to Israel's enemies. He probably even felt fortunate that he found a ship going to Tarshish, however he was not expecting the consequences he soon faced while on the ship. "But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken. Then the mariners were afraid, and cried every man unto his god, and cast forth the wares that were in the ship into the sea, to lighten it of them. But Jonah was gone down into the sides of the ship; and he lay, and was fast asleep.....So they took up Jonah, and cast him forth into the sea: and the sea ceased from her raging." (1:4-5,15).

God prepared a giant fish (whale) to swallow up Jonah and for three days he sat in the belly of the whale, thinking about what he had done, he prayed and repented to God and was immediately expelled out of the whale. "Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, And said, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and he heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and thou heardest my voice........But I will sacrifice unto thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that that I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD. And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land." (2:1-2,9-10).

Jonah saw the entire city of Ninevah repent of it's sins and be saved. "So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.......And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not." (3:5,10). Jonah became one of the greatest evangelist of his day, God could have just chosen another prophet to do His Will, but He knew his potential way down deep in his soul. He might have put him in a tough situation in order to get Jonah himself to believe and do His Will, but He knew he would follow through. Jesus on three occasions spoke of this historic event as factual, (Matthew 12:40-41; 16:4; Luke 11:29-32).

In this book God showed His love toward both the prophet and the nation, He could have let them both be destroyed, but His mercy and love toward all show that all who repent are spared from destruction. Many are called still today to follow God's Will and just as Jonah ran so do we, but sooner or later God will catch us and lead us back, this is coming from a one time backslider herself. "Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin; That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God." (I Peter 4:1-2).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through Jonah's experience in the whale's body, (Jonah 1:7-2:10). Jesus used this historical even as an illustration to tell of His death, burial, and resurrection when the Pharisees demanded that He give them some sign that He is who He said He is. "But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth." (Matthew 12:39-40).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
No need in our lives is ever overlooked, overwhelming, or overly difficult for You to meet.  You use the good, the bad, and the complex matters that we sort through daily to test our faith and grow our endurance.  These challenges that are continually before us compel us to look to the Scriptures for spiritual understanding and sustaining power. I will trust in Your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in Your salvation, in the midst of the wait. My heart seeks after You, my Lord and my God, for You have cared for me all the days of my life and You will continue to do so, for You promise to never leave me nor forsake me. In Jesus' name....Amen.

Today we will read and learn about grasshoppers; fire; and a plumbline; and a famine of God's Word. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that no matter how badly we are treated we can not return evil for evil. We must seek God and continue to live as Jesus did while He was on the earth.

Amaziah, the paid non-Levitical priest of King Jeroboam II, heard the prophecy of Amos, "And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the LORD, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more: And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword." (Amos 7:8-9). He misinterpreted his words and went to the king telling him that he would die by the sword. "Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land." (7:10-11).

The prophecy against the house of Jeroboam was fulfilled when Zachariah, Jeroboam's son, was assassinated by Shallum after reigning only six months. Shallum took his place, but he only reigned for one month before he, in turn, was murdered by Menahem (See II Kings 15:8-10,13-14).

The book of Obadiah is the 31st book of the Old Testament and contains only 1 chapter. The book was written by Obadiah to the nation of Edom to warn them of God's punishment for their sins. What we are to learn from the book is that God punished those who have been glorified through their sins.

The nation of Edom had been hostile toward the nation of Israel since the time of Esau (Edom) and Jacob (Israel). Esau, who was the older of the twins sold his birthright over food, (See Genesis 25:25-34). God through Obadiah foretold of Edom's triumph over Israel as well as the complete destruction of the nation. "The vision of Obadiah. Thus saith the Lord GOD concerning Edom; We have heard a rumour from the LORD, and an ambassador is sent among the heathen, Arise ye, and let us rise up against her in battle. Behold, I have made thee small among the heathen: thou art greatly despised. The pride of thine heart hath deceived thee, thou that dwellest in the clefts of the rock, whose habitation is high; that saith in his heart, Who shall bring me down to the ground? Though thou exalt thyself as the eagle, and though thou set thy nest among the stars, thence will I bring thee down, saith the LORD." (Obadiah 1:1-4).

Their self-sufficiency and disinterest in the will of God led them to ignore Obadiah's warning, but within four years after they assisted Babylon in helping them destroy the nation of Jerusalem, Edom themselves was destoyed by Babylon. "In the day that thou stoodest on the other side, in the day that the strangers carried away captive his forces, and foreigners entered into his gates, and cast lots upon Jerusalem, even thou wast as one of them. But thou shouldest not have looked on the day of thy brother in the day that he became a stranger; neither shouldest thou have rejoiced over the children of Judah in the day of their destruction; neither shouldest thou have spoken proudly in the day of distress. Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity; Neither shouldest thou have stood in the crossway, to cut off those of his that did escape; neither shouldest thou have delivered up those of his that did remain in the day of distress." (1:11-14).

The nation of Edom is a lesson for all of us to learn, we can not be over confident in what we do ourselves nor of what our friends do for us. In an instant anyone can turn on you and if we are not careful we can turn on ourselves. Often pride plays a big part in the way we approach God, if we are too proud we will reject God's Word all together. This often leads to backsliding and falling into the hands of sin.  

We Christian's have one thing going for us, we are saved by the blood of Christ and all who call on Him shall be saved. That however, does not mean that we can continue to sin and get away with it, just as God judges our fellow nations we are judged. The absolute justice of God and our assurance of His faithfulness should encourage us to know that the principles of His right and wrong never change and that we need to obey His laws.

Jesus expressed an inevitable spiritual law of life for everyone, "Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again. And as ye would that men should do to you, do ye also to them likewise. For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners also love those that love them. And if ye do good to them which do good to you, what thank have ye? for sinners also do even the same. And if ye lend to them of whom ye hope to receive, what thank have ye? for sinners also lend to sinners, to receive as much again. But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil. Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." (Luke 6:30-36).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the Plumbline (Amos 7:7-8). A plumb line is used to indicate an absolutely straight vertical line, Christ alone is qualified to walk in the midst of His people, measuring and exposing good and bad, true and false. (Revelation 2 and 3).

Today we will read and learn about the judgements announced for Judah, Israel, and their surrounding nations; and God's sorrow over Israel's future captivity. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we may think we are not qualified to be used of God, but He has chosen all of us to br used of Him.

The book of Amos is the 30th book of the Old Testament and contains 9 chapters. The book was written by Amos to the people of Israel in hope that they would come back to God. What we are to learn from the book is this is a call for all nations to prepare to meet God.

Amos was only a herdmen from the village of Tekoa in Judah, but he was willing to speak for God against sin to Judah and all the surrounding nations throughout the sothern kingdom. He delivered his prophecy of impending judgment in Bethel, the site of one of Israel's two false worship centers and one of several residences of King Jeroboam II in the northern kingdom. "The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake. And he said, The LORD will roar from Zion, and utter his voice from Jerusalem; and the habitations of the shepherds shall mourn, and the top of Carmel shall wither." (Amos 1:1-2).

All this took place at a time when the northern kingdom was still prospering financially, Israel was very proud of what they had and had no intentions of walking away from it. It must have seemed ridiculous to them to have an outsider come to them and speak about God's judgement upon them. "Hear this word that the LORD hath spoken against you, O children of Israel, against the whole family which I brought up from the land of Egypt, saying, You only have I known of all the families of the earth: therefore I will punish you for all your iniquities." (3:1-2). God continued to warned them about the destruction they were facing, but they ignored Amos.

The prophecy of Amos was given about 30 years before Israel was defeated by the Assyrians. God tried everything He could to show them that they were being deceived and to appeal to them to seek Him if they were to live. "Seek good, and not evil, that ye may live: and so the LORD, the God of hosts, shall be with you, as ye have spoken. Hate the evil, and love the good, and establish judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph." (5:14-15). The gate was a city's entrance and center of business where the elders judged the people.

God often uses just ordinary people like Amos to serve and proclaim to others His message. It is not by what we own or the talents we are blessed with, nor by how popular we are. It is how obedient we are that qualifies us to be used by Him. "For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: That no flesh should glory in his presence. But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption: That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord." (I Corinthians 1:26-31).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed as the Creator of the universe (Amos 5:8). "God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds." (Hebrews 1:1-2).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank You for enlisting us as Your servants in the kingdom of God here on earth. You do not require a special degree or lots of money for us to be used by You.  You look for willing hearts whose love and commitment to Christ spill over into their words and actions in every setting in which they're found. May we be eager to diligently study Your Word so that we can effectively serve You in reaching others through the opportunities provided to us. Thank You for the many who are faithful examples of lives that are fully yielded to Your purpose as they glorify You while influencing others for Your Kingdom. In Jesus' name....Amen.

Great Blessings Waiting 09.21.08

Today we will read and learn about the plague of insects; Joel's call to repent; the day of the Lord, the Holy Spirit, the restoration of Israel, and the judgement upon the nations. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that the greatest blessings for the future can only be made by surrendering our lives over to God's Will.

The book of Joel is the 29th book of the Old Testament and has 3 chapters. The author of the book is Joel and he orginally wrote it to the people of Judah. The purpose of the book was to warn Judah of their sin and need for repentance and to inform them of God's future plans for the nation. What we are to learn from the book is that even during chastisment, God plans future blessings for His people.

Once again God sent a prophet to the nation of Judah to warn them of the destruction that lies ahead of them. Through Joel God warned them of a plague of insects that would devour the land. "The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? Tell ye your children of it, and let your children tell their children, and their children another generation. That which the palmerworm hath left hath the locust eaten; and that which the locust hath left hath the cankerworm eaten; and that which the cankerworm hath left hath the caterpiller eaten." (Joel 1:1-4).

A trumpet was used to warn the Israelites of solemen days, feasts, and danger approaching, God warned them of the danger, but due to their sins and unwillingness to return to only Him, He could not bless them or protect them. This caused the Israelites to suffer the destruction alone. "Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in my holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the LORD cometh, for it is nigh at hand; A day of darkness and of gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall be any more after it, even to the years of many generations." (2:1-2).

The one condition the God asks to be forgiven of sins is genuine repentance. Genuine repentance works in several ways; First, it shows God that one is sorrowful over their sins. Second, it is turning only to God and asking Him to forgive you for all of your sins, and third, it is being forgiven and saved through the Lord, Jesus Christ. "Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning: And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil. Who knoweth if he will return and repent, and leave a blessing behind him; even a meat offering and a drink offering unto the LORD your God?" (2:12-14).

Through Joel God also foretold of the coming Gospel era and restoration of the nation, "And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the LORD your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed. And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the LORD your God, and none else: and my people shall never be ashamed. And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions:" (2:25-28).

Joel reminds us, "that whosoever shall call on the name of the LORD shall be delivered", (2:32). On the Day of Pentecost, the Apostle Peter, quoted word by Joel, "(Acts 2:16-21), preached the prophetic meaning of his words, "Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know: Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain: Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it." (Acts 2:22-24). Today we are all saved by the blood of Christ and all who call on Him shall be saved.

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the One who will pour out His Spirit upon all flesh, (Joel 2:28). This prophecy was fulfilled in part on the Day of Pentecost (Acts 2:16-18).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
It is not by mistake, but by Your design that we suffer trials in our lives, but it is through those trials that we learn to trust You. Help us to seek You through all times and to find joy in the midst of all trials. May we see gratefulness and thankfulness through our trials and the blessings that are ion our future as we endure them. In Jesus name.....Amen.

Trusting God 09.20.08

Today we will read and learn about the rebuke and captivity of the northern kingdom of Israel foretold and Israel's blessings through their ruin. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that instead of trusting ourselves we need to trust God to help us through our struggles.

The northern kingdom of Israel seeked the help of heathen nations Egypt and Assyria instead of God. In doing this it caused them (the Israelites) to fall into the worshipping of the idols and false gods that these nations were customed to. God warned the Israelites that He knew of their wickedness, "When I would have healed Israel, then the iniquity of Ephraim was discovered, and the wickedness of Samaria: for they commit falsehood; and the thief cometh in, and the troop of robbers spoileth without. And they consider not in their hearts that I remember all their wickedness: now their own doings have beset them about; they are before my face." (Hosea 7:1-2).

With a divided heart they chose to serve both God and their own gods. "For Israel hath forgotten his Maker, and buildeth temples; and Judah hath multiplied fenced cities: but I will send a fire upon his cities, and it shall devour the palaces thereof." (8:14). God then gave a heart rendering plea for them to turn from their gods and seek only to Him, "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the LORD, till he come and rain righteousness upon you." (10:12).

Israel had foolishly put its trust in heathen nations and false gods and in its own ability to manipulate peace and security rather than in the One who is the only true source of security. Still, we see the willingness of God to show mercy and love toward all His children in hopes that they will repent and turn back to Him. God even foretold the blessings that were in store for them, "I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon. They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon. Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found. Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the LORD are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein." (14:4-9). These final words of Hosea before the Israelites were conquered and carried away by the Assyrians are a reminder for all of us to realize that the ways of the LORD are right.

Today, when we repent, turn from our sins and receive Jesus into our lives we let the Holy Spirit indwell in us and help guide us away from the power of Satan and sin. "If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us." (I John 1:6-10).

In today's message Jesus Christ is revealed through the son who was called out of Egypt, (Hosea 11:1).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Give us the faith to trust You at All times, good and bad. Thank You for the mercy and love that You bless us with and the many other blessings that we miss when we are so consumed in our struggles. Help us to keep our focus on You and not on the world and give us the strength and courage to stay away from the idols and gods that keep us from completely trusting in You. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Spiritual Adultry 09.19.08

Today we will read and learn about the comparison between Israel and an unfaithful wife; the judgement upon the northern kingdom; God's withdrawl from them; and the urgancy for repentance. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that putting other things before God makes us spiritual adulterers. We must not let anything come before God and His Word.

The book of Hosea is the 28th book of the Old Testament and contains 14 chapters. THe book was written by Hosea himself to the northern kingdom of Isreal and the purpose of the book was to alert Israel of her sinful condition and bring her back to God. What we learn from the book is that experience fosters understanding and compassion.

Jeroboam II was king of the northern kingdom of Israel, the moral and spiritual level of the Israelites had become so low that they had no shame in allowing sodomitation (male prostitution) and other detestable practices. (See I Kings 14). Because of their sinful acts God commands Hosea to marry a harlot. "The beginning of the word of the LORD by Hosea. And the LORD said to Hosea, Go, take unto thee a wife of whoredoms and children of whoredoms: for the land hath committed great whoredom, departing from the LORD. So he went and took Gomer the daughter of Diblaim; which conceived, and bare him a son." (Hosea 1:2-3).

After baring three children Gomer left Hosea and went back to her life as a harlot. She was later captured and Hosea bought her and redeemed her. He had a legal right to have her stoned, but he loved her so much that he chose to redeem her. "Then said the LORD unto me, Go yet, love a woman beloved of her friend, yet an adulteress, according to the love of the LORD toward the children of Israel, who look to other gods, and love flagons of wine. So I bought her to me for fifteen pieces of silver, and for an homer of barley, and an half homer of barley: And I said unto her, Thou shalt abide for me many days; thou shalt not play the harlot, and thou shalt not be for another man: so will I also be for thee." (3:1-3).

Hosea was an illustration of the relationship that Israel had with God, they were as an unfaithful wife, but He loved them so much that He rather see them redeemed and not destoyed. God declared through Hosea that His people were destroyed by lack of knowledge. "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children." (4:6).

God has written a great guide to show us how He expects us to live our lives here on earth. That guide is the Bible, it contains all the answers to your questions as well as the gives you hope, peace, and direction for an ungodly world. "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." (II Timothy 3:16-17).

It is of utmost importance that we study this guide daily, we can not live the life God wants us to live if we do not know what that is and the only way to learn is by reading His Word. Do not worry about not being able to understand, the Holy Spirt through you will enable you to understand. "Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal." (I Corinthians 12:3-7).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through Hosea's love for his unfaithful wife. (Hosea 3:1-5). Jesus not only loves us as sinners, He also died for us so that we are redeemed through His blood.

Dear Lord,
Nothing brings abiding peace more than knowing that we are saved from the penalty of sin and that we are firmly grounded in Your holy precepts. It makes us feel safe in a struggling world that continues to search for knowledge from all the wrong sources. We are sound in our outlook when we align our understanding and convictions with the teachings of Christ, His disciples and the prophets of old. We speak wisdom among those who are mature; a wisdom, however, not of this age nor from the authority of this world that changes from year to year.  Our wisdom is based upon our knowledge and understanding of You, our eternal Father, the One who changes not. Spiritual Warfare 06.19.08

Today we will read and learn about an angel that is detained; the prophecy of great tribulation and the Antichrist. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that spiritual warfare exists and the only way to overcome it is to pray without ceasing and to trust in God's Word.

When Daniel learned of the difficulties his people were facing in Jerusalem he became deeply distressed, he grieved and fasted for three weeks. "In the third year of Cyrus king of Persia a thing was revealed unto Daniel, whose name was called Belteshazzar; and the thing was true, but the time appointed was long: and he understood the thing, and had understanding of the vision. In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled." (Daniel 10:1-3).

After three weeks of fasting and prayer with no answer from God He revealed to Daniel through an angel that unseen evil powers had kept Him from answering his prayers at the time, but that He was with him through it all. "And, behold, an hand touched me, which set me upon my knees and upon the palms of my hands. And he said unto me, O Daniel, a man greatly beloved, understand the words that I speak unto thee, and stand upright: for unto thee am I now sent. And when he had spoken this word unto me, I stood trembling. Then said he unto me, Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set thine heart to understand, and to chasten thyself before thy God, thy words were heard, and I am come for thy words........Then there came again and touched me one like the appearance of a man, and he strengthened me, And said, O man greatly beloved, fear not: peace be unto thee, be strong, yea, be strong. And when he had spoken unto me, I was strengthened, and said, Let my lord speak; for thou hast strengthened me. Then said he, Knowest thou wherefore I come unto thee? and now will I return to fight with the prince of Persia: and when I am gone forth, lo, the prince of Grecia shall come." (10:10-13,18-20).

The unseen warfare between our nations still exists today and is stronger than ever, eventually the antagonist of the world will openly attack God and all His people until the entire world is at war. Through Daniel God foretold of the Antichrist. "Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries. And some of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make them white, even to the time of the end: because it is yet for a time appointed. And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done. Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all. But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things." (11:34-38).

Since the birth of Christ there have been many antichrists and the driving force behind them all is to destroy the Kingdom of God. Daniel admitted in his prophecy that there was much of it that he did not understand, but his faith knew that it would eventually lead to a wonderful outcome.

Daniel's prophecy reminds us that the coming of Christ is real and will be sooner than we think and it is up to us to be prepared. There will be a time when all the antichrists and wickedness of the world will come to an end and Jesus will reign the entire world. "And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming: Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved." (II Thessalonians 2:8-10).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed as the one who lives forever, (Daniel 12:7).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
We as believers of Christ are thankful and grateful today as we learn of the seriousness of the antichrist. It is only through Your strength, comfort, and security that we will be safe from the persecution that we face. Though we can not avoid what is happening around us we can experience the joy and peace that comes as we meditate upon Your Word and teach it to those who are willing to listen. May we not cease from praying for the lost and our protection. In Jesus' name....Amen.

Beast of Power 06.18.08

Today we will read and learn about Daniel's vision of 4 beasts; the vision of the ram and goat; his prayer for his people; and the vision of 70 weeks. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that no matter how powerful we are we can not escape the judgement from God. All who do not repent and ask Jesus to come into their lives will be judged.

Through Daniel God reveals another vision, "In the first year of Belshazzar king of Babylon Daniel had a dream and visions of his head upon his bed: then he wrote the dream, and told the sum of the matters. Daniel spake and said, I saw in my vision by night, and, behold, the four winds of the heaven strove upon the great sea. And four great beasts came up from the sea, diverse one from another." (Daniel 7:1-3). The four winds represents man's selfish ambition and their use of cruel power to get what they want. The great sea represents a fallen, godless, and insecure civilization, and the four beasts represent the kingdoms of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome.

Daniel continues with his vision and describes the beasts, "The first was like a lion, and had eagle's wings: I beheld till the wings thereof were plucked, and it was lifted up from the earth, and made stand upon the feet as a man, and a man's heart was given to it." (7:4). The lion represented the kingdom of Babylon, which was the king of all nations. "And behold another beast, a second, like to a bear, and it raised up itself on one side, and it had three ribs in the mouth of it between the teeth of it: and they said thus unto it, Arise, devour much flesh." (7:5). The bear represented the kingdom of Medo-Persia who later conquered Babylon. "After this I beheld, and lo another, like a leopard, which had upon the back of it four wings of a fowl; the beast had also four heads; and dominion was given to it." (7:6). The leopard represented Greece and Alexander the Great who conquered Medo-Persia.

The last beast was one that was horrible looking and unidentifiable, "After this I saw in the night visions, and behold a fourth beast, dreadful and terrible, and strong exceedingly; and it had great iron teeth: it devoured and brake in pieces, and stamped the residue with the feet of it: and it was diverse from all the beasts that were before it; and it had ten horns. I considered the horns, and, behold, there came up among them another little horn, before whom there were three of the first horns plucked up by the roots: and, behold, in this horn were eyes like the eyes of man, and a mouth speaking great things." (4:7-8). This beast represents Rome who cruely and ruthlessly conquered all the nations that remained. The ten horns represent a confederation of ten future world rulers. The little horn represents the Antichrist who will speak against Jesus. (4:23-25).

However, Daniel's vision also sees Jesus who will one day be the ruler of all nations, "And the kingdom and dominion, and the greatness of the kingdom under the whole heaven, shall be given to the people of the saints of the most High, whose kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and all dominions shall serve and obey him." (7:27)

Today, we face much opposition as this vision becomes a reality, but no matter what we face we can not back down from our belief's. We must take a stand for Jesus and keep telling the lost about Him because there will be a time when all who do not accept Him will face judgement, but those who have accepted Him will enjoy the everlasting kingdom of God. "Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit." (Galatians 5:19-25).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the Son of Man (Daniel 7:13-14). This vision was confirmed by our Lord as He spoke of His promised return. (Matthew 24:30).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Help me to remain faithful to You and Your calling upon my life, Strenghten me and increase my faith as I learn Your Word and help me to apply them in my daily walk here on earth. As I face trials and temptations that try to take my eyes off You help me to stay faithful and seek You above all things, holding on the the truth that You died for me and saved me from an eternal life of hell. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

From Failure to Success 09.16.08

Today we will read and learn about a second dream from Nebuchadnezar interpretated by Daniel; Belshazzar's feast; and Daniel in the lions den. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that failures in our lives bring out the greatness of God. When we put aside our pride and look to Him all of our failures become successes.

Nebuchadnezzar had another dream and once again he called on the magician's, etc. to interpret it. Getting no answers he called on Daniel, "This is the interpretation, O king, and this is the decree of the most High, which is come upon my lord the king: That they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field, and they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and they shall wet thee with the dew of heaven, and seven times shall pass over thee, till thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. And whereas they commanded to leave the stump of the tree roots; thy kingdom shall be sure unto thee, after that thou shalt have known that the heavens do rule." (Daniel 4:24-26).

Daniel urged Nebuchadnezzar to turn from his sins and listen his counsel, however he did not listen and his dream quickly became a reality. He began speaking to the people and credited himself as the successor even to the point of claiming himself as a god. ""At the end of twelve months he walked in the palace of the kingdom of Babylon. The king spake, and said, Is not this great Babylon, that I have built for the house of the kingdom by the might of my power, and for the honour of my majesty?" (4:29-30).

As he was speaking God spoke to him and in an instant he lost his kingdom and began to turn into a beast like person. "While the word was in the king's mouth, there fell a voice from heaven, saying, O king Nebuchadnezzar, to thee it is spoken; The kingdom is departed from thee. And they shall drive thee from men, and thy dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field: they shall make thee to eat grass as oxen, and seven times shall pass over thee, until thou know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will. The same hour was the thing fulfilled upon Nebuchadnezzar: and he was driven from men, and did eat grass as oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven, till his hairs were grown like eagles' feathers, and his nails like birds' claws." (4:29-33). Seven years passed by, Nebuchadnezzar humbly prayed, blessed and praised God. As he did he began to return to normal and his kingdom was restored to him. Consequently, Nebuchadnezzar's grandson, Belshazzar who also worshipped false gods, never heeded the warnings from God and lost his life due to his unchanging ways. (Daniel 5:1-30).

Today, we learn a lesson from both Nebuchadnezzar and Belshazzar, God always gives us a chance to turn away from our sinful ways. He even gives us a way out should we ignore all the warnings, but we can not be too confident that we can continue to sin and God will bail us out because sooner or later it will be too late and there will be no chance to repent.

True repentance turns any failure into a success and many times we end up being successful far beyond what we even dreamed because we are giving God control. "(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof." (Matthew 6:32-34).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I pray for the courage to stand up to all those who criticize us and try to change our way of thinking. It is You that I choose to obey and follow and not the wordly people. Strengthen our faith and help us to do what is right and not what is the popular thing of the week is. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Walk Out of The Fire 09.15.08

Today we will read and learn about Daniel rejecting the kings food; Daniel interpreting Nebuchadnezzar's dream; and Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in a fiery frunace. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that no matter how much opposition we face we can not walk away from God. He is truly the only one who can pull us out of the burning fire. The book of Daniel is the 27th book of the Old Testament and contains 12 chapters. The author of the book was Daniel and it was originally written to the Jews that were captive in Babylon. The purpose of the book was to show that God rules all the affairs of men. What we learn from the book is that God is in control and He honors all who honor Him.

Shortly after Nebuchadnezzar took the Israelites captive Daniel as well as others were given new names in order to identify them as citizens of Babylon, "Now among these were of the children of Judah, Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah: Unto whom the prince of the eunuchs gave names: for he gave unto Daniel the name of Belteshazzar; and to Hananiah, of Shadrach; and to Mishael, of Meshach; and to Azariah, of Abednego." (Daniel 1:6-7). This was an attempt to remove their identities as children of God and to teach them to think like and live as the Babylonians. All Hebrew names have special meanings, Daniel's name means God is Judge, the Babylonian's changed his name to Belteshazzar, which means Prince of Baal in hopes that it would remind him that all he newly received and enjoyed was a result of him being the Prince of Baal.

Now, Nebachadnezzar had dreams that troubled him so he sought magicians, astrologers, and other sorts of who he called wise men to interpret them. However, these men could not and as a result he ordered all the wise men, including Daniel to be killed. (Daniel 2:1-13). While being attained Daniel and his friends prayed and God revealed to Daniel in a night vision what Nebuchadnezzar's dream meant, freeing Daniel and his friends (Daniel 2:36-45). "Then the king Nebuchadnezzar fell upon his face, and worshipped Daniel, and commanded that they should offer an oblation and sweet odours unto him." (2:46).

Nebuchadnezzar then made a gold image and gathered all the high powered people together. "Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up." (3:1-2). When it came time for the ceremony all the people were to bow down and worship this image at the appointed time and whoever did not would be thrown into a firey furnace.

All, but three men obeyed this command, Daniel's friends, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (3:10-12). These men had faith in the One True God and were not about to worship a false god no matter how fatal it looked. Their faith was so strong that when they were thrown into that furnace they not only survived, they danced and worshiped God. Nebuchadnezzar then knew that it was God who was with them and let them go. "Then Nebuchadnezzar spake, and said, Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, who hath sent his angel, and delivered his servants that trusted in him, and have changed the king's word, and yielded their bodies, that they might not serve nor worship any god, except their own God. Therefore I make a decree, That every people, nation, and language, which speak any thing amiss against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, shall be cut in pieces, and their houses shall be made a dunghill: because there is no other God that can deliver after this sort." (3:28-29).

Today, Daniel and his friends are examples that we must all follow, in a world that strives at worshipping idols and false gods we must hold on to our faith. Jesus said, "No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?" (Matthew 6:24-25).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
The commandments that You give are to be impressed upon our hearts. When our acts of obedience come from the heart Your love motivates us to obey Your commands and Your holiness teaches us to align our desires with Your own. Help us to be extremely cautious about new teachings that are pleasing to the ear and popular with our present generation, but do not bear witness with our spirit. As we study Your Holy Word, from cover to cover, and meditate upon Your principles we will hold on to that which is of most importance and pass on to those who come behind the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints of all generations.  In Jesus' name.....Amen.

A River Flowing 09.15.08

Today we will read and learn about the worship of the prince; the river from the Temple; the divisions of the land; and the gates of Jerusalem. Today's message focuses on the living water of Jesus Christ that flows through us, the more we read and apply God's Word to our lives the deeper our river gets.

As we continue reading about the vision that Ezekiel saw from God regarding the rebuilding of the Temple and Jerusalem we now learn of a flowing river coming from the Temple. "Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the utter gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side." (Ezekiel 47:1-2).

The futher the water flowed, the deeper it became, "Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over." (47:5). The water symbolizes our walk with God, we begin as a stream and as we experience more and grow closer to Him the deeper our waters flow into a great river that can not be diminished. "Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh." (47:8-9).

Consequently, Jesus is the living water who quenches our thist and keeps us from dying spiritually, mentally, and physically. Jesus said, "But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life." (John 4:14).

This is a vision anticipating the glorious future that all believers in Jesus as the Messiah will experience All who know and love Him as their Savior will enjoy the new promised land during the millennial reign of our Lord Jesus Christ.

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the living waters that flowed through the land. (Ezekiel 47:1-12, 48:35). "They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more; neither shall the sun light on them, nor any heat. For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes." (Revelation 7:16-17).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
You know the longings of my heart, when I seek thrills and quick fixes to satisfy these longings I am eventually disappointed, but Your supply of Living Water never runs dry and satisfies the inner desires of my heart because You are the only One who can meet my spiritual needs. Lord, as I come today dry and thirsty I look to You, for You satisfy and quench my thirst so that not only my spiritual needs are met, but my mental and physical as well. I love You, Lord and I pray in Jesus' name.....Amen.

God's Temple Part 2 09.14.08

Today we will read and learn about the vision of the glory of the God of Israel filling the Temple; the ordinaces of the priests; and the description of the land of the future city and Temple. Today's message continues the importance of realizing that we are the Temple of God.

Before Jerusalem had been destroyed, Ezekiel through visions saw the glory of the God of Israel transcend away from the Temple built by king Solomon (See Ezekiel 9:3; 10:4,18-19; 11:22-23). The once glorious kingdom of Israel and the city of God were only memories and instead of turning from their idols they chose to ignore God's Word and worship them in the Temple itself.

Now, Ezekiel received another vison, one of a new Temple that was far greater than that which was destroyed, filled with the Glory of the God of Israel. "Afterward he brought me to the gate, even the gate that looketh toward the east: And, behold, the glory of the God of Israel came from the way of the east: and his voice was like a noise of many waters: and the earth shined with his glory. And it was according to the appearance of the vision which I saw, even according to the vision that I saw when I came to destroy the city: and the visions were like the vision that I saw by the river Chebar; and I fell upon my face. And the glory of the LORD came into the house by the way of the gate whose prospect is toward the east. So the spirit took me up, and brought me into the inner court; and, behold, the glory of the LORD filled the house." (Ezekiel 43:1-5). The Temple was built as a physical place for God's people to know where the presence of God existed.

Today, there is no need for a special building because we are the Temple of God. When we accept Jesus Christ into our lives the Holy Spirit indwells in us and it is up to us to let His presence be known. In the millennium there will be no need for types or symbols because God the Father and Jesus Christ, whom the symbols represented, will be present. Our concern should not be how and when the prophecies will be fulfilled; but, above all else, we should be concerned that our body, mind, and spirit be prepared for the Lord's return. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." (I Corinthians 6:19-20).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the vision of Glory of the LORD that filled the Temple. (Ezekiel 43:4).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
We are grateful this day for the precious blood of Your Son, Jesus, who saved us from sin. Through Him we are now members of Your Temple. We no longer need to seek You in other places because Your Holy Spirit indwells deep inside us. Lord, help us to draw closer to You as our faith grows by planting Your Word in our souls. In Jesus' name......Amen.

God's Temple 09.13.08

Today we will read and learn about the vision of the future Temple in Jerusalem. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we are the Temple of God.

Ezekiel received another vision, this time through God, he envisioned the rebuilding of the Temple. "In the five and twentieth year of our captivity, in the beginning of the year, in the tenth day of the month, in the fourteenth year after that the city was smitten, in the selfsame day the hand of the LORD was upon me, and brought me thither. In the visions of God brought he me into the land of Israel, and set me upon a very high mountain, by which was as the frame of a city on the south. And he brought me thither, and, behold, there was a man, whose appearance was like the appearance of brass, with a line of flax in his hand, and a measuring reed; and he stood in the gate. And the man said unto me, Son of man, behold with thine eyes, and hear with thine ears, and set thine heart upon all that I shall shew thee; for to the intent that I might shew them unto thee art thou brought hither: declare all that thou seest to the house of Israel." (Ezekiel 40:1-4). This new vision looked far into the future, where Ezekiel saw a glorious Temple, far more magnificent than the Temple built by Solomon.

Solomon's Temple, the Tabernacle, as well as the future Temple describes an innermost room, called the Most Holy Place or the Oracle where God's presence dwelt, "Then went he inward, and measured the post of the door, two cubits; and the door, six cubits; and the breadth of the door, seven cubits. So he measured the length thereof, twenty cubits; and the breadth, twenty cubits, before the temple: and he said unto me, This is the most holy place." (41:3-4). The Temple was a type of Christ that carried the presence of God, giving believers a sense of hope and a way to be free from sin.

Today, we do not have to worry about walking into a building and going before a priest to confess our sins or seek the presence of God when we need hope. We have the great fortune of being able to carry His presence with us everyday. Once we accept Jesus as our Lord the Holy Spirit moves in us giving us the presence of God and making us His Temple. "Every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? If any man defile the temple of God, him shall God destroy; for the temple of God is holy, which temple ye are." (I Corinthians 3:13-17).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the sacrifice, (Ezekiel 40:42). Jesus was the great and final sacrifice that saved us from all of our sins, even those we have not already commited.

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Without the shed blood of Your Son, Jesus, we were weighed down by the shackles of sin.  It spreads as a disease from our hearts to our minds separating us from our Creator and making us a bond slave to Satan. Thank You for sending Jesus, who by His intense love and sacrificial death, freed us from the sin that ensnared us. He turned our mourning into dancing as He lifted our condemnation and replaced it with eternal hope. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

A Dry Spirit 09.11.08

Today we will read and learn about the valley or dry bones; the prophecy against Gog; and the vision of Israel restored. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that we can not let our time with God become dry. It is only by reading and obeying God's Word that we are cured by the spiritual dryness in a believer's life.

Nebuchadnezzar destroyed Jerusalem in 586 B.C., afterwards most of the Israelites who survived were scattered throughout Gentile nations. Since the Temple and City of God were destroyed the Israelites lost all hope of any restoration of their homeland. It was during this time that God revealed to Ezekiel through a new vision that the land would be restored. "The hand of the LORD was upon me, and carried me out in the spirit of the LORD, and set me down in the midst of the valley which was full of bones, And caused me to pass by them round about: and, behold, there were very many in the open valley; and, lo, they were very dry." (Ezekiel 37:1-2).

The bones were dry, bleached, having been there for quite a while, and represented the Israelite kingdom that no longer exsisted who had no hope of ever again becoming a nation. They as a nation were literally and spiritually dead, however like the dry bones it was not buried. "Again he said unto me, Prophesy upon these bones, and say unto them, O ye dry bones, hear the word of the LORD. Thus saith the Lord GOD unto these bones; Behold, I will cause breath to enter into you, and ye shall live: And I will lay sinews upon you, and will bring up flesh upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and ye shall live; and ye shall know that I am the LORD." (37:4-6).

Ezekiel proclaimed the Word of God as the bones began to come together and form a great army. Although the Isaraelites were saying their hope was lost this army proved that Israel would be restored. "Then he said unto me, Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel: behold, they say, Our bones are dried, and our hope is lost: we are cut off for our parts. Therefore prophesy and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, O my people, I will open your graves, and cause you to come up out of your graves, and bring you into the land of Israel. And ye shall know that I am the LORD, when I have opened your graves, O my people, and brought you up out of your graves, And shall put my spirit in you, and ye shall live, and I shall place you in your own land: then shall ye know that I the LORD have spoken it, and performed it, saith the LORD." (37:11-14).

Now, after more than 2500 years the Israelites do exist as a nation and live within the promised land. God will soon fulfill His promise as the Lord Jesus Christ comes back to rule the world from the New Jeruslaem. "Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name." (Revelation 3:12).

In all nations and ages, forces that refuse to acknowledge God have violently attacked the True Word of God, they rewrite His words to confuse people and give false prophecies in order to make themselves look good or keep the lost from knowing the truth. It seems at times that the foundations of truth become as the dry bones we read about today. However, God permits these attacks to seperate the believer from those who worship idols false gods.

Consequently, we unconsciously create idols in our lives, it could be material possessions, a career, or a person. It is most important to realize that nothing comes before God and as long as we put Him first He will bless us. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto youBut seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the one who made it possible to be ressurected from the grave. (Ezekiel 37:12)

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I am strengthened and encouraged through You Jesus, who saved me from total destruction. It is through You that I am saved and am able to conquer by greatest fears. You are also the living fountain that quneches my thirst and keeps my sprirt from drying up. I put my complete trust and faith in You and from this moment on I will try my best to put You above all things. In Jesus' name.....Amen.

Responsibility 09.11.08

Today we will read and learn about the destruction of Jerusalem; God's final warning to repent; God's sheep and the false shepherds; the destruction of Edom; and the restoration of Israel foretold. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that it is our own responsibility to turn from our sinful ways. God loves us and wants the best for us, but unless we call on Him HE personally will not answer.

The destruction of Jerusalem was about to take place and through Ezekiel God gave all the people who were still there one final warning. "Again the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, speak to the children of thy people, and say unto them, When I bring the sword upon a land, if the people of the land take a man of their coasts, and set him for their watchman: If when he seeth the sword come upon the land, he blow the trumpet, and warn the people; Then whosoever heareth the sound of the trumpet, and taketh not warning; if the sword come, and take him away, his blood shall be upon his own head." (Ezekiel 33:1-4). 

God appointed Ezekiel as a watchman, "So thou, O son of man, I have set thee a watchman unto the house of Israel; therefore thou shalt hear the word at my mouth, and warn them from me. When I say unto the wicked, O wicked man, thou shalt surely die; if thou dost not speak to warn the wicked from his way, that wicked man shall die in his iniquity; but his blood will I require at thine hand. Nevertheless, if thou warn the wicked of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but thou hast delivered thy soul" (33:7-9).

God tried to assure the people that he had no pleasure in seeing the death of anyone, but wanted them to turn from their wicked ways. "Therefore, O thou son of man, speak unto the house of Israel; Thus ye speak, saying, If our transgressions and our sins be upon us, and we pine away in them, how should we then live? Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel?" (33:10-11).

Yet still, the Israelites that remained in Jerusalem as well as the ones captive in Babylon ignored Ezekiel and refused to repent of their wicked ways and even criticized God, saying that He failed to live by His Covenant promise to keep them safe. "Yet the children of thy people say, The way of the Lord is not equal: but as for them, their way is not equal. When the righteous turneth from his righteousness, and committeth iniquity, he shall even die thereby. But if the wicked turn from his wickedness, and do that which is lawful and right, he shall live thereby. Yet ye say, The way of the Lord is not equal. O ye house of Israel, I will judge you every one after his ways." (33:17-20). All this was fulfilled as prophesied by Ezekiel on the day of his wife's death. Ezekiel proclaimed that the Israelites covenant realtionship with God was determined by their own responsibility to live righteously. This was rejected by those unwilling to forsake their sins.

Still today, God faces the same criticism, many want the promises of God, but they do not want to turn from their sinful ways. It is our responsibility to change our ways, God gives us the great gift of free will and allows us the choice, but He will not bless those who continue to live in sin and will not repent. We all live by rules in some way and those who obey them are always rewarded, maybe not when we expect it, but eventually. "Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever." (I John 2:15-17).

In today's Jesus Christ is revealed as the Shepherd (Ezekiel 34:23). Jesus is our Shepherd who finds His lost sheep. "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine. As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep." (John 10:14-15).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I am resolved no longer to crave the world and cling to its alluring delights. Satan's delights bring only passing pleasure which leave no satisfaction later on. Lord, through the power of Your indwelling Holy Spirit, I can fight against the world who wants to bring me down and keep me tied up. It is by Your strength in me that I will rise up and conquer. In Jesus' name....Amen.

Judgements Upon Nations 09.10.08

Today we will read and learn about the invasion of Egypt by Babylon; the warning of Egypt by the fall of Assyria; the lamentation over Egypt. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that God is in control of all the earth and whether we accept it or not war is the Will of God. We need to let God who directs the affairs of nations guide us by His Word.

Since the Exodus, Egypt had grown into a great nation, they knew the power of the One True God, however they still failed to put away their idols and worship Him. About a year after Babylon had invaded Jerusalem God warned them through Ezekiel. "Son of man, set thy face against Pharaoh king of Egypt, and prophesy against him, and against all Egypt: Speak, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great dragon that lieth in the midst of his rivers, which hath said, My river is mine own, and I have made it for myself........And I will make the land of Egypt desolate in the midst of the countries that are desolate, and her cities among the cities that are laid waste shall be desolate forty years: and I will scatter the Egyptians among the nations, and will disperse them through the countries.  " (Ezekiel 29:2-3,12).

Although Egypt would not have great power over the world, it was not to be destroyed as Jerusalem was nor Babylon would be. Ezekiel foretold, "Yet thus saith the Lord GOD; At the end of forty years will I gather the Egyptians from the people whither they were scattered: And I will bring again the captivity of Egypt, and will cause them to return into the land of Pathros, into the land of their habitation; and they shall be there a base kingdom. It shall be the basest of the kingdoms; neither shall it exalt itself any more above the nations: for I will diminish them, that they shall no more rule over the nations." (29:13-15). Egypt never regained the power it had then, even today it remains the same. Egypt stands as a witness to the supreme authority of God over all nations and no matter how many reject the One True God, He is in control.

Over the centuries, God brought judgement upon Israel, Judah, Tyre, Sidon, Egypt, Babylon, as well as many other nations, even the US has faced judgement since it's discovery. It's easy for the world to put the blame on other nations and to say that they are the ones who have control, but sooner or later all realize that God says, "I am the LORD". "And the land of Egypt shall be desolate and waste; and they shall know that I am the LORD:" (29:9a). The phrase "I am the LORD" is mentioned 66 times in this book alone to point out the importance of realizing that God is on control and that we need to obey His Word.

A future time of redemption and restoration was also foretold, "In that day will I cause the horn of the house of Israel to bud forth, and I will give thee the opening of the mouth in the midst of them; and they shall know that I am the LORD." (29:21). The horn is a symbol of power, "The adversaries of the LORD shall be broken to pieces; out of heaven shall he thunder upon them: the LORD shall judge the ends of the earth; and he shall give strength unto his king, and exalt the horn of his anointed." (I Samuel 2:10).

As prophesied, the people of God, both Jew and Gentile, have a future destiny of glory with Jesus as their Messiah. "To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: For there is no respect of persons with God." (Romans 2:7-11).

In today's reading Jesus Christ is revealed through the prophets by the Word of the Lord (Ezekiel 29:1). Jesus is the great prophet who revealed to us His death, burial and resurrection as well as His second coming.

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
I know that contentment with godliness is of great benefit. It brings about a lasting peace and grateful heart that only You can give. Help me not to focus so much on the world and it's material possessions that I lose sight of that which is of vital importance. May the character of my soul and the fruit of my actions be of much greater importance than the perishable goods that capture my attention. I look to You for proper balance in the things You have blessed me with and the attitude in which I receive these good things from Your hands. In Jesus' name....Amen.
