Today's Bible Study: The Lord's Passover
Hello My Friend/Guest,
It is Monday January 21, 2008 and today we are continuing our studies on the book of Exodus. Please read Exodus 11-13. In today's lesson we will read and learn about the final plague, the Lord's Passover; the Exodus; a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire.
Each miraculous plague proved that Egypt's gods were false deities and that the One True God controls His creation. The final plague of judgment was death. "And the LORD said unto Moses, Yet will I bring one plague more upon Pharaoh, and upon Egypt; afterwards he will let you go hence: when he shall let you go, he shall surely thrust you out hence altogether. Speak now in the ears of the people, and let every man borrow of his neighbour, and every woman of her neighbour, jewels of silver and jewels of gold. And the LORD gave the people favour in the sight of the Egyptians. Moreover the man Moses was very great in the land of Egypt, in the sight of Pharaoh's servants, and in the sight of the people. And Moses said, Thus saith the LORD, About midnight will I go out into the midst of Egypt: And all the firstborn in the land of Egypt shall die, from the first born of Pharaoh that sitteth upon his throne, even unto the firstborn of the maidservant that is behind the mill; and all the firstborn of beasts." (Exodus 11:1-5).
There was no family that was good enough that it did not need the blood applied -- no, not even Moses' or Aaron's. This was their only hope of deliverance from the death angel. God had only one plan and His divine Command had to be obeyed. However, God provided a way for all of the Israelites who were obedient to Him to save their firstborn from death. They were required to sacirfice a lamb, "Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats: And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it in the evening. And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it. And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it. Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof. And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire. And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD's passover. For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt." (12:5-13).
The Hebrew word translated atonement carries the idea of covering something, thereby removing it from God's sight. However, even though an innocent lamb made a temporary atonement, sin was not fully eradicated. Although there were daily and monthly sin offerings, the Israelites were still required to annually observe a full Day of Atonement.
Today, we are blessed as Jesus became the only true Sacrificial lamb and died for the sins of the world so we do not have to complete this ritual every year. Praise Jesus!
In today's lesson Jesus Christ is revealed as the sacrifice of lambs without blemish. Not one of the lamb's bones was to be broken (Exodus 12:5,46). We were redeemed with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot.
Today's Psalm: (25:5)
"Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day."
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Thank you for blessing me with this day and thank you for the many blessings you give me each day. Jesus, we thank You that salvation comes from You alone. Thank you that You are enough. You are the sinless Lamb of God, the only acceptable sacrifice to God, who provides salvation to every man, woman, boy and girl from every region on the face of this earth who call upon Your name. Keep reminding us that we cannot earn our salvation because You give it freely. We choose to receive Your gift of salvation through faith in You, Jesus Christ our Lord. And we are intensely grateful for Your merciful compassion toward us. In Your Mighty name, Jesus', I pray......Amen.
Have a wonderful day/night. May you be blessed with a wonderful week.
God Bless,
Christina
